After Shazia Ilmi, Kumar Vishwas likely to quit Aam Aadmi Party

After suffering two major jolts with Shazia Ilmi and Captain G.R. Gopinath quitting from the party, the AAP is disintegrating like a pack of cards. Another founding member of the debutante party, Mr Kumar Vishwas may follow the suit by parting his ways from the party along with other disgruntled workers. The differences within the party have been on the upswing ever since it received a drubbing in the Lok Sabha poll.

Despite Shazia Ilmi’s resignation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over “lack of inner-party democracy”, AAP leaders not only still hope that she will return, but also expect to continue to be BJP’s main challenger in the capital.
However, the apparent weakening of the AAP after their weak performance in the Lok Sabha polls and the resignation of a prominent leader has fuelled Congress hopes of being able to wrest their traditional strongholds from the AAP and recover from the two humbling defeats in Delhi.

Sources said that Mr Vishwas, who contested from Amethi against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has been upset over “lack of enough campaigning” on his seat by the party convenor Arvind Kejriwal. It appears that Mr Vishwas may be the next to join the group of “peeved” party workers and choose to quit the party citing differences with the autocratic style of its functioning. The Lok Sabha poll debacle has brought to fore the deep schisms within the party, which could not emerge earlier due to frantic campaigning for the general elections.
While Mr Vishwas is yet to announce his formal resignation, he has been lying low since the election results were announced and was the first from the AAP to congratulate Narendra Modi on his spectacular performance in the Lok Sabha polls. Interestingly, Mr Vishwas has been associated with the RSS in the past. Bolstered by the AAP’s stunning performance in the Delhi Assembly elections, he took on the challenge to contest against Mr Gandhi, but his hopes of victory were dashed.
